The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist mental health trust with a focus on training and education alongside a full range of mental health services and psychological therapies for children and their families, young people and adults.

We are committed to improving mental health and emotional wellbeing, believing that high quality mental health services should be available for all who need them. We bring a distinctive contribution based on the importance we attach to social experience at all stages of people’s lives, and our focus on psychological and developmental approaches to the promotion of health and the prevention and treatment of mental ill health

We contribute to the pool of ideas through our own research and development, but are also committed to bringing together the best ideas of the time, old and new, from inside and out, together with the most gifted and able professionals in our fields of endeavour. We aim to share our ideas and practice through as many routes as possible.

As a Trust we aim constantly to be evolving in nature and form in relation to the environment in which we work, to ensure that our contribution remains relevant.

In April 2019, the Trust’s Board of Directors made a decision to reconfigure the senior leadership of our organisation and create a chief clinical operations officer to oversee all of our service user facing services. To support the new role, three new divisional director positions have been created.

This divisional director position will oversee the Trust’s adult and forensic services.

The Adult and Forensic Services directorate comprises three service lines:

  • Primary care services providing primary care based psychotherapy services in City and Hackney and Camden.

  • Adult complex needs providing psychotherapy services for individuals with complex needs, primarily, in North Central London and satellite contracts.

  • The Portman Clinic providing psychotherapy for both adults and children who are disturbed by their enactments of criminality, violence and sexually damaging behaviours, including those who have been in the criminal justice system and/or in forensic and personality disorder mental health services. The Portman Clinic holds a national contract for its clinical work but is also involved in a range of consultancy and other projects.

These service lines represent a very distinctive tradition in mental health, there is also considerable interest in developing this work further and in securing new applications for the Trust’s expertise in this field.

In addition to the above, the division has a major role in supporting psychotherapy trainees and an interest in research.

As the successful candidate, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for the division, ensuring that this supports the fulfilment of the Trust’s objectives, quality and patient safety requirements. In doing this, you will also be a mandatory attendee of the Trust’s Board of Directors.

You will have either a strong clinical leadership background or have significant senior operational leadership experience. With this you will need to be able build credibility quickly, organised and utmost focused on ensuring the delivery of high-quality and safe care.

If all of this sounds exciting and having read the job description you feel you have the skills to lead our clinical services then we look forward to receiving your application.
