GID Service Administrator – Leeds Based

Full Time: 37.5 hours a week

Permanent - Band 4

The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) is a Tier 4 specialist service within the Children, Young Adults and Families directorate, and offers a service to children, adolescents and their families who are experiencing difficulties in the development of gender identity. This may include children who are unhappy about their own biological sex and wish to belong to another one and children with a disorder of sex development if there are concerns about their gender identity development. The Service also offers counselling to children of parents who identify as transgender or experience other gender identity issues.

From 1st April 2009 the Service has been nationally designated and funded. As part of this funding agreement we are committed to ensuring equity of access to the service, which has a national remit. The service operates from two main bases, London and Leeds, and sites in Birmingham and Bristol, as well as offering outreach work across the UK.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced administrator. This is an important and challenging role with a varied, interesting and developing workload. With strong IT skills, the post holder should be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, as they will be dealing with servicer users, professionals and external agencies. The post holder will also need to deal professionally and sensitively with challenging and distressed families who may contact the service. In addition the post holder will be required to carry out a wide range of administrative tasks in order to ensure the smooth running of the office.

The successful applicant will be able to work in a very busy department dealing with clinicians and service users. They will need to be able to manage a demanding workload, be competent in computer packages and have the ability to manage a patient database effectively. Other skills required are the ability to manage work priority, have very good communication and interpersonal skills, be a team player, have a flexible approach to work, be adaptable to changing demands, have excellent typing skills, a high standard of written English and be experienced in office administration. The postholder will be sensitive to the needs of this unique group of service users.
